The project for the new airport in Murcia at Corvera has been delivered to the regional government and should be with the Development Ministry in early December
The Murcia government’s public works chief, José Ballesta, has confirmed that the project for the new Murcia International Airport in Corvera has now been delivered to the regional government, and is expected to be sent on to the Development Ministry at the beginning of next month.
Ballesta said it appears likely that construction could start in the first quarter of 2008, for completion at the beginning of 2010.
The contract to build and manage the new airport was signed at the end of July, awarding the 40 year management concession to the Aeromur S.A. consortium. The Murcia President, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, announced at the time that Corvera will have an initial annual operating capacity of 1.5 million passengers, to increase up to 5.2 million in 2015.
